Week 18

How far along: 18 weeks

Size of Baby S: 5.5 in, 7 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison (according to Baby Center): Bell pepper

Total weight gain: 0 lbs; I asked the midwife about this at my appt. this week and she measured the baby to see where he/she was on the growth chart. The baby is measuring fine so she told me not to worry about the weight gain right now. I blame all the healthy food in Norway for the lack of weight gain because I sure am eating!

Sleep: Good. Jason is feeling better and not coughing and the cats seem to be behaving (at least at night...)

Movement: Nothing yet...but according to the pregnancy book I'm reading right now, it won't be too long!

Unglamorous body changes: Probably TMI, but I've a couple times my stomach has woken me up hurting and I've had to go to make an unpleasant trip (like they are ever pleasant?!) to the bathroom in the in middle of the night. :-/

Maternity Clothes? No, but I did have to wear the belly band twice this week with a pair of my dress pants and jeans so I might have to bust them out soon. :-)

Showing: I can definitely see and feel the bump and it's starting to show through my clothes.

Food cravings: Fruit! And lots of it. Last week I was craving sushi and fortunately a new friend Jade and her husband had us over for dinner and she made cooked hand rolls. Delicious! :-)

What I miss: Good Mexican food.

Anything making you queasy: Nope.

Strange experiences: I probably stop about 3 or 4 times a day and just think, "I can't believe there's a human growing inside of me". Completely crazy, but pretty amazing too.

Milestones: The baby is flexing his or her arms and legs, something that I should start feeling in the coming weeks.

Best moment this week: There were a lot this week! :-)

1. I had an appointment with the midwife that I will be seeing for the remainder of my prenatal care. She was incredibly nice and answered all of my questions and spent a lot of time with me. I got to hear the heart beat of our little one which is such an incredibly joyous sound! We were disappointed though that Jason couldn't go (he realized too late that he had training that day which he couldn't miss)

2. We researched and decided on a crib and glider and got them ordered! I am very excited about the choices we made and cannot wait to see them in March!

Looking forward to: Next Wednesday, January 16 we find out the gender of our little one!!!!!! Don't forget to cast your vote before then! :-)

Sneak Peek...

I owe you many blog posts about our wonderful trip to London and Ireland over Christmas break and New Year's. And they are in the works, I promise! However, there are many, many photos to sort through and a few that Jason wants to work his editing magic on using Photoshop. Which is on the Big Mac (the name for our family computer). Which is in the sea shipment. Which we still have not received. It sounds like the shipment is close though (Amsterdam) and perhaps only being delayed because they were celebrating the holidays a little too much...

We are hoping to get the shipment in the next week or two and until then hopefully this sneak peek has you on the edge of your seat and ready to hear about the rest of our trip!

Really? Those didn't do it for you? Well, then here's a few good ones that should actually build up the anticipation of what's to come. :-)

Week 17

There's not much new since the last post, but I want to keep going on these weekly updates anyway. We made it home from our vacation and are sifting through the 500+ pictures we took on the trip to select blog-worthy ones. I'll give you a sneak peak of what's to come later this week... ;-)

Until then, here's Week 17!

How far along: 17 weeks, 1 day

Size of Baby S: 5 in, 5 oz

Fruit/vegetable comparison (according to Baby Center): Onion

Total weight gain: 0 lbs

Sleep: Alright. Jason has been sick so his coughing has made it hard to sleep and Zoey has decided to seek revenge on us for being gone so long and we've had to get up multiple times at night to scold her for being on the counter, tearing apart boxes, etc. Brat cat.

Movement: Nothing yet...but according to the pregnancy books I should start feeling little flutters in the next few weeks.

Unglamorous body changes: I look like I have developed a muffin top rather than a baby bump. And it's still only obvious in certain clothes or particularly after mealtime...

Maternity Clothes? Nope.

Showing: I can definitely see and feel the bump, but it doesn't look like much through clothes.

Food cravings: Orange juice and oranges. Also icing. I really want an Ooh La La cupcake. :-/

What I miss: Sushi. I really want some good hand rolls (which are probably all cooked), but those are hard to find here as opposed to sashimi (the raw fish).

Anything making you queasy: Jason's driving on the Ireland windy roads right after breakfast. Probably not what the question was referring to though... Food-wise, nothing.

Strange experiences: Telling coworkers that I am pregnant and having them say that I don't look pregnant at all. I still don't really feel differently so it's still hard to think that I am actually pregnant.

Milestones: The baby's skeleton is changing from cartilage to bone. Hopefully to feel little kicks one day soon! :-)

Best moment this week: Starting to contact photographers about doing a maternity photo session in Houston when we return in March and possibly in Cozumel where we are going for our babymoon.

Looking forward to: We finally decided on a midwife/ob-gyn practice that we are going to use for our pre-natal care. I have an appointment with the midwife next week to meet her. Then the following week we have our hospital ultrasound to find out the gender!
